Larkin Newton Cabin tours will be offered at Heritage Day on Sat., Sept. 9th.

3rd Annual Heritage Day Next Sat.

Come take in a day of family fun and get to know your community at 3rd Annual Heritage Day on Sat., Sept. 9, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on North 8th Street in downtown Midlothian. A 911 remembrance kicks of the event at 9:30 a.m.  Live music and entertainment will be center stage all day. Kids can enjoy pony rides, bounce houses, and barrel train rides. Adults are invited to compete in cornhole and 42 tournaments.  A free lunch will be served at 11 a.m. while supplies last. Try your hand at lawn games and tour the historic Larkin Newton Cabin. Visit vendor and artisan booths and learn what various clubs and organizations have to offer.

StoryTots! Barnyard program offered for pre-schoolers at A.H. Meadows Library.

StoryTots! Barnyard Held Weekly at the Library

StoryTots! Barnyard edition is held on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. at A.H. Meadows Library, 922 S. 9th Street. Participation is limited to 20 tots per session. Preregistration opens seven days prior to each session. The two weekly StoryTots! sessions are identical, so please sign up for only one per week. Register here.

Kids' Crafty Saturdays for Elementary Age

Also at A.H. Meadows Library, Kids' Crafty Saturdays are held monthly for elementary-age kids (first – fifth grade), beginning Saturday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. Classes are free, but preregistration is required, and classes are limited to 30 participants.  

Bailey and the Bad Habits

Bailey & the Bad Habits play a mix of Red Dirt country, blues, and rock.

Free Concert Sept. 23

The award-winning Beats concert series continues this fall, opening with Bailey & the Bad Habits, a Texas Red Dirt band, offering original tunes and popular country, blues, and rock numbers, appropriate for all ages.  Bring chairs and blankets for lawn seating.  The concert is free, but food for purchase will be available. Outside food, beverages, and coolers are allowed.  This event is presented by Google and supported by Midlothian Community Development Corporation and Ash Grove Cement.

Midlothian Ranks 45th of State's 50 Safest Cities

The City of Midlothian ranked No. 45 among the 50 safest cities in Texas in the 9th annual Safest Cities in Texas report for 2023, published by SafeWise, a company that studies crime rates and safety trends nationwide.  Midlothian’s rates were one violent crime per 1,000 people and 10.3 property crimes per 1,000 people.  Visit SafeWise to review the report and learn more about Texas crime rates,

Girl Scouts cleaned up trash at Midlothian Community Park.

Girl Scout Troop 2309 helped collect 24 pounds of trash at a CleanUp event earlier this summer.

CleanUp Event Planned at Mockingbird Park

Keep Midlothian Beautiful (KMB) will host a CleanUp Event at Mockingbird Nature Park on Mon., Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. Volunteers should meet at the trailhead of the park, 1361 Onward Road, and bring drinking water and gloves. Wildflower Walk will Showcase Pollinators

Texas Master Naturalists, Indian Trail Chapter of Ellis and Navarro counties will hold one of its last two Wildflower Walks of the year at Mockingbird Nature Park on Sat., Sept. 16, at 9 a.m.  This walk will focus on the role our parks play in providing habitat for pollinators, such as bees and butterfliers.  Pollinators are a vital component of our ecosystem and an essential link to the world’s food supply. Located at 1361 Onward Road, Mockingbird Nature Park showcases the flora and fauna of the Texas prairie.  The ½-mile walk will be guided by the Master Naturalists. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. TxDOT to hold Public Meeting about US 287 service roads.

TxDOT has issued a Public Notice of meetings to be held about US 287 service roads.

TxDOT Plans Public Meetings about US 287 Service Roads

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is proposing improvements to US Highway 287 from east of SH 360 to west of US 67 in Ellis County, Texas. The public is advised that TxDOT will be conducting an online virtual public meeting on the proposed project with an in-person option. The same information will be available at both the in-person and virtual meetings.

The in-person meeting will be held on Thurs., Sept. 14, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Midlothian Conference Center, 1 Community Circle Drive, Bluebonnet 2.

Public notices available in both English and Spanish.

The virtual meeting will be open from Thurs., Sept. 14, 5:30 p.m. through Fri., Sept. 29, 11:59 p.m.
