5th Annual Parktopia offers fun for all ages.

Parktopia is all fun and games, Friday!

Midlothian’s Annual Parktopia will be held tomorrow, Friday, July 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Community Park, 3601 S. 14th Street. This event promises fun for the entire family. Activities include a variety of friendly games of football, soccer, and even four square. Also includes lawn games, like cornhole and kite flying. Free face painting and balloon art will be on tap. Free souvenirs and refreshments from In-n-Out Burger and Marco's Pizza will be available while supplies last. The Midlothian Fire Department will supply a cooling station to help keep eventgoers comfortable. A tribute to 80's bands will rock Beats concert

The award-winning Beats concert series continues July 28 at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by ScanT, a tribute to 80's hair bands, at Community Park's Art Pierard Memorial Amphitheater, 3601 S. 14th Street. The concert is supported by Midlothian Community Development Corp. and Ash Grove Cement. Free and open to the public, concertgoers may bring outside food and drink, but food for purchase will also be available. Bring chairs and blankets for lawn seating. “Minions -- the Rise of Gru" will be shown on Saturday, August 5, 7:30 p.m., at Midlothian Community Park Amphitheater, 3601 S. 14th Street. The event is free and open to the public and is made possible by sponsor Methodist Midlothian Medical Center. Prize drawings are held prior to the movie, which begins at dark. Higginbotham Brothers Ace Hardware Store returns as a prize sponsor this year and Ale’s Kitchen is welcomed as a new prize sponsor. Attendees should bring their own chairs and blankets for lawn seating. In case of rain, movie will be rescheduled to August 12. View movie trailer here.

Five streets slated for road rehabilitation this summer.

Annual road rehab projects underway

The five City of Midlothian roads listed below are slated for rehabilitation this summer (not necessarily in order). Road rehab involves reconstructing and resurfacing the road, which in addition to improving the drivability of the road, extends the life of the road for five to seven years. During construction, the streets will be open to through traffic, but some traffic interruption will occur. Traffic control will be in place. Each project takes a few days, or at most a week, weather permitting. The patience and cooperation of motorists is appreciated.
