"Lyle, Lyle Crocodile" kicks off summer movies“Lyle, Lyle Crocodile” kicks off the Movies in the Park series on Saturday, June 3, 7:30 p.m., at Midlothian Community Park Amphitheater, 3601 S. 14th Street. The event is free and open to the public thanks to sponsor Methodist Midlothian Medical Center. Prize drawings are held prior to the movie, which begins at dark. Higginbotham Brothers Ace Hardware Store returns as a prize sponsor this year and Ale’s Kitchen is welcomed as a new prize sponsor. Attendees should bring their own chairs and blankets for lawn seating. In case of rain, movies will be rescheduled. Note that Community Park is a new location for this event. Mid-Way Airport Annual Fly-In/Drive-In Pancake Breakfast, June 3The Annual Pancake Breakfast Fly-In/Drive-In will be held at Mid-way Regional Airport, 131 Airport Drive, Midlothian, on Saturday, June 3, from 8 to 11 a.m. Admission is free, but parking is $3 and breakfast tickets are $7 for adults and children 8 and older. Cash only is accepted. Free activities and exhibits include classic airplanes and fighters, Midlothian Classic Wheels Club, trackless train rides, bounce house, face painting, balloon twister and more! Fee for helicopter rides and CAF airplane rides. All proceeds benefit Scout Troop 524.

Library summer reading program starts June 6A.H. Meadows Library summer reading program, “All Together Now,” kicks of June 6 with craft days, prizes, and special events, all to help children, ages 3 through 5th grade, keep their skills up and have fun at the same time. Stop by the library to pick up reading logs and goodie bags. Craft day registration also opens June 6. The “All about Animals Show” happens June 14 at 10 a.m.; no registration required. Bicycle Safety Course offered by Midlothian Police DepartmentTaught by members of the Midlothian Police Department, this course is tailored by age group to teach agility and safety. Participants will engage in bike games, enjoy snacks, and make friends, all while learning the rules of the road and how to enjoy bicycling safely. Each age group attends a different day. Amanda Kate Ferris headlines first free summer concert, June 16The award-winning Beats concert series is back this summer, beginning Friday, June 16 with a return performance by Amanda Kate Ferris, country singer-songwriter. To be held at Community Park Amphitheater, 3601 S. 14th Street, the concert is supported by Sunrider, a beauty and health products manufacturer in Midlothian. Free and open to the public, concertgoers may bring outside food and drink, but food for purchase will also be available. Bring chairs and blankets for lawn seating. Nature walk at Mockingbird Park set for June 17Learn about the indigenous plants and wildlife of the Texas prairie on Saturday, June 17, 9 a.m., at a free, ½-mile nature walk at Mockingbird Park, 1361 Onward Road, led by members of the Texas Master Naturalists Indian Trail Chapter of Navarro and Ellis Counties. Comfortable, outdoor clothing, closed-toe shoes, and insect repellent recommended. All ages are welcome but know that the walking surface is unpaved. Walks are cancelled in the event of rain. Independence Day Parade call for entriesThis year’s Independence Day Parade falls on July 1 at 10 a.m., stepping off from Community Park, 3601 S. 14th Street and ending at Mt. Zion Road. Annual Fireworks extravaganza, July 3 Thanks to the support of Citizens National Bank of Texas, Methodist Midlothian Medical Center, and Midlothian Community Development Corporation, the annual fireworks show will light up our skies on Monday, July 3 at 9:15 p.m. Staged next to Midlothian ISD Multi-Purpose Stadium, the show can be viewed from the parking lot, which opens to spectators at 6 p.m. Visit the event webpage for information about other viewing sites.
