On March 8, 2023, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) issued this traffic advisory.

ELLIS COUNTY – A project to install nearly 14 miles of cable barrier along US 287 is scheduled to begin Monday, March 13, 2023. Drivers are urged to start planning ahead for extra travel time in this area.

The $3 million project will install cable barrier in the median of US 287 between the Business US 287 junction in Waxahachie to the Ellis/Johnson County Line.

Northbound US 287 WILL BE NARROWED TO ONE LANE AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT CORRIDOR FROM 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM ON WEEKDAYS, starting March 13 through fall 2023, weather permitting. Be alert to crews and equipment working in the corridor during these times and follow all directional signage to help ensure a safe work zone.

The overall project is expected to complete in early 2024, weather permitting.

Note: The cable barriers are being installed as part of the $600 million Road to Zero funds allocated by the Texas Transportation Commission in 2019.  Road to Zero is among numerous TxDOT initiatives to reduce the number of traffic fatalities on Texas highways.
