It may have been a balmy day, Saturday, Dec. 4th, but downtown Midlothian felt like a winter wonderland. Beginning with the Southern Star Christmas Celebration in Heritage Park, event-goers came to enjoy the arts and crafts fair, selfies with Santa, barrel train rides, and write letters to Santa. North 8th Street’s merchants decked out their storefronts for the season, with Ellis County Title Company taking top honors in the Downtown Business Association’s downtown decorating contest with “A Christmas Story.”
Stepping off at 6 p.m., “A Storybook Christmas” parade offered more than 50 entries, including the Panther Regiment, Pantherettes and Royals, equestrian units, Scout troops, Sheriff’s Explorers, Midlothian Clay Target Team, and Midlothian Tennis Association to name just a few. Students from throughout Midlothian Independent School District served as grand marshals along with Dr. JoAnn Fey, MISD superintendent.
Winning the Judges' Overall Favorite Award for "Most Enchanted" was Centennial Roofing's Whoville float; the Best Use of Theme "Storybook Wonder" Award went to Keller Williams Ellis County and the gang from Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer; City Real Estate claimed the award for Best Use of Lights, "Celebration Illumination" (pictured here). Finally, the McDonald family's wild Grinch Who Stole Christmas won for the Most Original "Unforgettable Holiday" entry. The festivities were made possible through the generosity of our sponsors Ash Grove Cement, Methodist Midlothian Medical Center, Texas Ace Heating and Air, and our community partners Earth Tones Greenery, Manna House, and the Downtown Business Association.
The merriment continues on Friday, December 10th at 6:30 p.m. when Merry Movie Night features the movie “Elf” at Midlothian Community Park, 3601 S. 14th Street. In-n-Out Burger will provide free burger boxes while supplies last.
