[ARCHIVED] Honorary Tree Lighter and "A Storybook Christmas" Parade Grand Marshals Announced

Midlothian's Parks and Recreation Department has planned an exciting lineup of holiday events to add to the merriment of the season.

Wednesday, December 1, 6 p.m., Tree-Lighting Ceremony at Heritage Park, 234 N. 8th St. This year's tree will be lit by kindergartner, Michael Murphey, and his family. The ceremony will include the reading of the Christmas story.

Saturday, December 4, 1 to 5 p.m., Southern Star Christmas Festivities at Heritage Park, 234 N. 8th St. Festivities will include arts & crafts booths and food vendors, selfies with Santa, take-and-make crafts, letters to Santa, barrel train rides, bounce houses, and shopping along North 8th Street.  Additionally, the event will be a Toys for Tots drop-off location.

Saturday, December 4, 6 p.m., “A Storybook Christmas” Light-Up Parade.  The annual light-up parade will step off at Avenue B and North 8th Street and end at Avenue F and Overlook Drive.  Serving as grand marshals for the annual light-up parade will be students from across Midlothian Independent School District who will be accompanied by Superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Fey.  Awards will be given to parade entries in the following categories: “Storybook Wonder” award – Best Use of Theme; “Celebration Illumination” award – Best Use of Lights; “Unforgettable Holiday” award – Most Original, and “Most Enchanted” award – Judges Overall Choice.

Friday, December 10. 6:30 p.m., annual Merry Movie Night, featuring "Elf" will be held at Midlothian Community Park, 3601 S. 14th St. Free burger boxes will be provided courtesy of In-n-Out Burger while supplies last.    

All these events are free and open to the public thanks to our generous sponsors, including Ash Grove Cement, Earth Tones Greenery, Inc., Methodist Midlothian Medical Center, Texas Aces Heating & Air Conditioning, and United Rentals, along with our community partners Manna House and the Downtown Business Association.

Deadline to register as a vendor for the Southern Star Christmas Festivities is Monday, November 29th at 5 p.m. Deadline to register a parade entry is Wednesday, December 1st at 5 p.m.
