2020 Election

An election will be held on May 2, 2020 to elect a Mayor and Councilmembers Place 1 and 2. The City contracts with Ellis County Elections and voters will be able to cast their ballot at any vote center location within the County.  The Midlothian Conference Center, 1 Community Circle, Midlothian, TX is an Early Voting and Election Day vote center location.  The election was ordered on January 28, 2020 by Resolution 2020-02 and the Notice of Election was posted.

The candidate filing period for a place on the ballot will be January 15, 2020 to February 14, 2020 with a declaration of write in candidacy through February 18, 2020.  Notice of Deadline to File (Aviso de fecha limite para presenter solicitudes para un lugar en la boleta) posted November 27, 2019.  Application for a Place on the Ballot

Early Voting will be conducted between April 20, 2020 and April 28, 2020 at the designated vote center locations.

The Notice of Drawing for Place on Ballot was posted February 18, 2020 with the drawing to take place on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 10am in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 104 W. Avenue E.

Candidate Information

It is the responsibility and honor of the City Secretary's Office to conduct and oversee the City Council election process for the City of Midlothian. Elections are conducted annually on the Uniform Election Day in May (the first Saturday in May.)
However, Texas Election laws regarding campaign finances and legal matters limit the role of the City Secretary’s Office to accepting and filing the various candidate applications, affidavits and statements and noting the date of filing.

The required election forms and instruction guides are provided on this site for your convenience. Please note that all election records and campaign reports are considered Open Records and will be viewed as such by newspaper/media reporters and opponents.

Mayor and Council Qualifications (as specified in the Home Rule Charter)

(a)     Must be a citizen of the United States.

(b)     Must be a qualified voter of the State of Texas.

(c)     Must have resided at least six (6) months next preceding the election within the corporate limits of the City of Midlothian.

(d)     Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

(e)     Must not be in arrears in payment of taxes or other liabilities due the City of Midlothian.

(f)     Must not have been convicted of a felony.

(g)     Must not be disqualified by reason of any provision of any other section of this Charter.
