School Resource Officers (SROs) are sworn law enforcement officers responsible for safety and crime prevention in schools. SROs work closely with Midlothian ISD administrators in an effort to create a safer environment for both students and staff. The responsibilities of SROs are similar to regular police officers in that they have the ability to make arrests, respond to calls for service, and document incidents. SROs have additional duties, including mentoring and developing strategies to resolve youth-related issues.
Our SROs have received in-depth training to respond to emergency situations such as active shooter, fire, tornado, hazardous material spills and more . The SRO’s provide on-site leadership and immediate response to any emergency situation that could occur to protect students and staff.
Midlothian Junior Police Academy
The Midlothian Junior Police Academy is a camp designed to strengthen the connection between law enforcement and local youth, giving them a chance to see what it's like to become a cadet police officer over their summer vacation. This FREE camp is modeled after the police academies that adults attend to become sworn peace officers.
The academy has aspects of a "paramilitary" organization. Junior Cadets will be introduced to physical training such as: competing in an obstacle course, self-defense tactics, hand-cuffing, and marching. The camp's curriculum includes traffic safety, criminal investigations, and alcohol and drug use.
At the end of the academy, students will participate in a graduation ceremony that acknowledges their endurance and hard work.
