Using Natural Products Around the House

  1. Replace costly bottled fabric softeners with 1 cup vinegar or 1/4 cup baking soda in the washing machine rinse cycle.
  2. Replace fabric softener sheets by applying 2 to 3 drops of essential oil on a damp washcloth then toss it in the dryer with your wet laundry.
  3. To freshen the air, place cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, whole cloves and sliced citrus fruit in a small pot of water on the stove. Bring to a boil and let simmer. The scent will be amazing. Replace the water with 2 cups of vinegar and store in a tightly closed jar for 2 weeks, shaking the jar once or twice a week. Strain the liquid into a pump spray bottle or atomizer and spray around the house as needed.
  4. Clean aluminum pots by boiling 1 quart of water and 2 tablespoons cream of tartar for 10 minutes. For non-stick cookware boil 2 tablespoons baking soda, 1 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar.
  5. Replace Limeaway or CLR with a ratio of 1 tablespoon vinegar to 1 cup water. Allow the item to soak overnight.
  6. Kill mold with full strength vinegar.
  7. To remove moisture from the air set out bowls of kitty litter.
  8. Sprinkle cornstarch on the pages of books to remove mildew. Wipe and shake clean.
  9. Sprinkle cornstarch or baking soda on a carpet spill, allow to sit for about an hour then vacuum.
  10. Microwave a small bowl of olive oil and use as a hand soak. Add some granulated sugar and scrub away the dry skin.
  11. Never combine vinegar with chlorine bleach the mixture is toxic. Also, never combine ammonia and chlorine bleach this mixture is also toxic.
