In January 2011, the City of Midlothian earned a Gold Leadership Circle Award from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts' Texas Transparency Initiative. The Comptroller of Public Accounts re-launched the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle program in December 2010 with improved award criteria to recognize local governments across Texas that are striving to meet a high standard for financial transparency online and spotlight local governments that are:

• Opening their books to the public 
• Providing clear, consistent pictures of spending 
• Sharing information in a user-friendly format

The "Gold" designation highlights those entities that are setting the bar with their transparency efforts. The City of Midlothian strives to promote accountability by ensuring that City government is open, transparent, participatory, and collaborative, and is committed to providing information to citizens about what their government is doing.
